Abandoned neighborhood in Ohio: Photos of Woodcliff are haunting

There is a surprisingly large collection of abandoned sites in Ohio: buildings, homes, and entire towns. Today’s featured destination is another odd example of a neighborhood that was once prosperous but is now completely empty. What is perhaps most captivating is the fact that this town has not been abandoned for a long time. In fact, as recently as 2019 some of the houses here were still occupied. The following photographs, taken by Johnny Jofeature the bewitching and lonely neighborhood of Woodcliff.

With nearly 100 abandoned homes, the Woodcliff neighborhood in Ohio is one of the most unusual in the state.
This site spans 36 acres and has been completely abandoned since 2019. Most of the houses, however, were abandoned long before. So what exactly is the story of this abandoned neighborhood in Ohio?

In 1953 Woodcliff was established as a popular place to live and work. A suburb of Columbus, the neighborhood quickly gained a reputation for being a peaceful place to live.
By the late 1980s, however, the quality of homes began to deteriorate. Tensions also began to arise among the locals.
It was 2007 when things finally got worse. The city and county both filed a health complaint after learning that condo association management dumped trash into the pool and then hired contractors to clean it monthly. The property was thus declared a public nuisance the following year.
Over the next decade and a half, numerous property code violation complaints would be filed regarding issues such as sewer backups, mold, and structural damage.
Finally, in August 2018, a court order was issued for the sale of the property. It was purchased by the city for around $10 million.

The twenty inhabitants who still lived in the district had one year to leave.
Demolition of the neighborhood has slowly begun, and according to the city, redevelopment won’t be complete until 2030.
