Akron Extends Hours of Operation at 4 Community Cooling Centers June 15-16 Due to Forecasted Heat


AKRON, Ohio – The City of Akron announced that it will be offering extended hours at four community centers that serve as chilling spots for community members on Wednesday and Thursday due to forecast high temperatures.

The following community centers will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Lawton Street Community Center, 1225 Lawton Street, 330-375-2825
  • Mason Park Community Center, 700 E. Exchange St., 330-375-2821
  • Patterson Park Community Center, 800 Patterson Avenue, 330-375-2819
  • Summit Lake Community Center, 380 W. Croisier Street, 330-375-2826

Other community centers are open to the public during normal construction hours. Everyone is encouraged to visit community centers to get out of the heat. See all community center locations and hours of operation.

Community centers will resume normal hours of operation on Friday, June 17. The city will continue to monitor the forecast and extend community center hours as needed.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday’s high is 97 degrees (Tuesday afternoon) and Thursday’s is 92.
