Cats advance to District Finals

OHIO CITY, Oh – Last Wednesday, the Wildcat Soccer team took on the Midview Middies at Wasmer Field for the district semifinals. The Middies entered the game with the best team on their program in years, after a 12-1 win over Lorain gave them their first sectional championship since 1997.

They were eager to try their luck against the top-ranked Wildcats. The Wildcats had just beaten Parma 14-0 to win the program’s 25th sectional championship.

The game would open slowly for both sides. The Middies’ defensive prowess caught the Wildcats off guard and as a result, they didn’t have many early opportunities. That is, until the 19th minute, junior Nick Mikulec would find space in the Midview back line and receive the ball in the box. He then passed the ball to Nolan Spicer, who put the ball in the back of the net to start the scoring for the Cats.

Midview would hold the Wildcats out of the picture for another 11 minutes until, in the 8th minute, Nick Mikulec fired a cross from the right side of the penalty area to Nick Trivisonno, who delivered a clinical volley into the back of the net to extend the lead to two.

The Wildcats’ first-half score wouldn’t end there, as Spicer fired the ball back to Mikulec three minutes later. They would kick the ball over ten yards outside the penalty area, where the ball would go past the goalkeeper’s outstretched arms for a goal, giving the Wildcat team a 3-0 lead at halftime. time.

The Saint Ignatius side would come through early in the second half, with goals from Spicer and Owen Sullivan in the 48th and 50th minutes. Closing the scoring in the 63rd minute as Spicer received a ball from Carter Snyder and tapped it into the back of the net, scoring his third goal of the game and extending the Wildcat’s lead to 6-0.

At the full-time whistle, the Wildcats came away victorious, winning 6-0. The team worked well to string together an important victory over a Midview team that exceeded expectations throughout the season.

The Cats advance to 16-2-0 this season and earn their ticket to the OHSAA District Final against the Shaker Heights Red Raiders. The game will be a rematch of the start of the season in which the Wildcats came away with a 4-0 win. The game will be played this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium.
