Explosion felt for the Miles Rocks Flint neighborhood

A late-night explosion prompted residents of Genesee County to take to social media for answers.

The explosion happened in the 3900 block of Hogarth Ave and was felt all the way to Grand Blanc and even Fenton according to numerous Facebook posts. Windows of area residents were blown and debris fell as far as Miller Road. Many have reported that the explosion looked like “an earthquake,” and owners in Genesee County noticed the windows shaking.

Pure Bliss Salon & Spa owner Melissa Withey, whose business is located on Hill Road & 23, said products on her salon shelves fell to the floor due to the strong shaking of the building. Owner Matt Erway posted a video on his Facebook showing the explosion as it happened. He was able to catch it on his outdoor security camera.

The story is still unfolding, but at the moment 3 people are missing and two are hospitalized. Search dogs are currently on the scene, according to Mid-Michigan NOW. Many neighboring houses have been damaged and many families are expected to be displaced as a result of the blast. A passerby posted video of the scene minutes after the explosion, documenting the aftermath. The video, which has now gone viral, mentions that there are fears that one or two children were in the house at the time of the explosion. As of yet, this has not been confirmed.

Firefighters and law enforcement were on the scene and details are appearing hourly. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
