Lorain school security guard on leave for excessive force investigation, district says

LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) – City of Lorain Schools confirmed Monday that a high school security guard is on paid administrative leave while investigating excessive force.

According to a news release, the impugned actions took place on August 25 as the officer responded to a fight between female students in the women’s restroom.

School officials said the officer broke up the altercation and “then handled the student’s disciplinary process appropriately.”

However, cellphone video emerged showing actions by the officer not included in the original incident report, the district said.

According to the statement, the officer was placed on leave after district officials viewed the video.

Below is part of the statement from the Lorain City School District:

“After a thorough investigation, the district will take all appropriate action. The district takes the safety and well-being of our students very seriously, and district officials have been in contact with the student and his family. , the Lorain Police Department and Lorain County Children’s Services have been notified of the incident, and the district will cooperate fully if required.”
