CLEVELAND, Ohio – A man is charged with beating a 65-year-old man to death outside a store in the Ohio City neighborhood.

Paige McKinney, 54, of Cleveland, is charged with murder in the death of Donald Partridge.

U.S. Deputy Marshals arrested McKinney early Wednesday at the Lakeview Towers social housing complex, where both McKinney and Patridge lived.

The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. on August 10 outside Linda’s Market on Detroit Avenue and West 28th Street.

McKinney approached Partidge as he was leaving the store and punched Partridge in the head, police said.

The punch knocked Partridge to the ground and rendered him unconscious, police said. A witness reported seeing the assailant rummage through Partridge’s pockets before fleeing.

An ambulance took Partridge to MetroHealth, where he died. Cleveland Police have not disclosed the motive for the attack.

McKinney has been convicted of several petty crimes since 1984, including attempted drug possession, aggravated trespassing, vandalism, concealment, break and enter and theft of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced in 1988 to between five and 25 years in prison for aggravated burglary.
