Man dies three months after being shot in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 31-year-old man died on Tuesday, more than three months after someone shot him on his way home to the Hough neighborhood, according to Cuyahoga County police and medical examiner .

Cortez Blair died at MetroHealth after the September 6 shooting on East 84th Street, north of Hough Avenue. Police did not say whether any arrests had been made in the case.

The shooting took place around 3:45 p.m., after Blair’s girlfriend picked him up from his job at Walmart in Steelyard Commons, with their 2-year-old son in the car, according to police reports.

The trio pulled into the driveway and got out of their car when two more cars pulled up, police said.

A man got out of one of the cars and fired several shots at the family. The woman said she believed someone in the other car fired the shots as well. Blair was shot and 10 more bullets hit the side of the car. Blair’s son and girlfriend were not physically injured by the gunfire.

The two cars sped off after the shooting.

The woman said she hid behind the car and found Blair injured after the shooting stopped. She drove him to MetroHealth, according to police reports.

Investigators reported that they later found one of the suspicious cars, a 2015 Chevrolet Impala that had previously been reported stolen from an apartment building in University Circle.
