Mentor Community Recreation Center Update / FAQ


Renovations to the new Mentor Community Recreation Center are progressing and we look forward to opening later this year. Residents are excited to enjoy the new facility and we have received a number of questions. Here are some answers to those we are most frequently asked.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When will the new leisure center open?
Construction and renovations are progressing well and we are awaiting the arrival of equipment and supplies. We are doing our best to open in early November.

Is the swimming pool going to be closed?
The swimming pool will most certainly be open. We plan to schedule many programs as well as offer many free swimming opportunities to our members.

Will there be new equipment?
Yes, we replace approximately 65% ​​of the facility’s equipment. The new fitness center will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to meet everyone’s needs.

What will be the opening hours?
The current hours offered are:

Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Hours may vary throughout the year, including holidays. Schedules offered subject to change.

How much will memberships cost?
The annual membership rate structure offered by the Mentor Community Recreation Center is as follows. This is subject to change.

A resident is defined as someone who lives within the boundaries of Mentor City.

If I live in Mentor-on-the-Lake and have the same area code, and my children attend Mentor High School, am I considered a resident?
Residents of Mentor-on-the-Lake are not residents of the Town of Mentor. Each participant’s address is cross-referenced with the county to determine actual residence.

Will monthly subscriptions be available?
No, we will only be offering annual subscriptions and daily passes.

Will there be a daily rate?
One-day admission to the facility will be available for those who do not wish to purchase an annual membership. Residents: $10.00. Non-residents: $12.00

Will an “unlimited” pass be available?
Yes, an “unlimited” plan will be available for several activities. The Unlimited Pass will be structured as an annual subscription add-on option.

When can I purchase a subscription?
A membership campaign will be announced closer to the opening date. Please follow the City of Mentor website/Facebook page for more details.

If I live outside of Mentor, can I join?
Yes, non-residents are welcome.

Do I need to be a member to take a course or program?
No, you do not need to be a member to participate in the programs and activities offered at the Recreation Center. Members and non-members can participate; however, members will receive priority registration and reduced prices for all programs.

How old do you have to be to be considered a senior?
You would need to be 60 to be considered a senior at the leisure center

Can I use my daughter’s or son’s address to be considered a resident?
Residency status is based on the residency of the person purchasing the membership. Only a physical address (not a PO Box) along with a current utility bill will determine a resident membership.

Will there be a senior plan like silver sneakers or active renewal offered at the recreation center?
Yes, we will be offering Renew Active at the Mentor Community Recreation Center for those who qualify through their insurance company (United Health Care). Please check with your provider to see if you qualify. We currently offer the Silver Sneakers program at the Mentor Senior Center and will continue to offer this option at this specific location. Silver Sneakers will not be a Mentor Community Recreation Center membership option.

How many tennis courts will there be?
4 tennis courts will be at your disposal. Prior to closing, the property had 6 tennis courts. 2 of these courts will be converted into a multifunctional space for basketball, volleyball and other activities.

Is the pickleball going away?
We plan to retain and use all of the pickleball courts currently at the facility. We are and have been in communication with the key people who previously ran the pickleball leagues at Heisley, and hope to structure the leagues, clinics and open play hours in a way that is beneficial to members, residents and community. town.

Will the outdoor pool be open next summer?
Yes, we are fully planning to open the outdoor pool next summer.

How many basketball courts will be available?
We will have 2 basketball courts available in the recreation center.

Can I apply for a part-time job at the Recreation Center?
We will be hiring for part-time positions for the recreation center as we get closer to opening. Please see the City of Mentor website for more details.

Will any of the previous instructors return?
We expect many of the former instructors to return. We will be offering many more programs and having more instructors to support our offerings.

When will all programs start?
Some programs will be available as soon as the establishment opens. A full schedule will be instituted in January 2023.

Do you sell old equipment?
Yes, a city auction is scheduled for August 27e. Photos of the actionable gear can be viewed on the City of Mentor website starting Monday, August 22. A preview of the equipment will take place on Saturday August 27th.e from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the auction starting at 10:00 a.m. sharp.
