Muskingum County Youth Community Foundation hosts ‘You Matter 5k Run’

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio – The Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation hosted its second “You Matter 5k” run!

The event took place at Collegial Woods Trail at noon, with a welcome ceremony just prior at 11:45 a.m.

The event was for anyone who wanted to walk or run healthy while helping young people and promoting suicide prevention.

Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation counselor Christy Rahrig says she hopes this event shows people care.

“I think it’s important to have an event like this to bring people together because there are people out there who need to know that people care about them. That you have value in your life , you matter. And there are people and organizations that will help and guide you through the dark valley you are going through right now,” she said.

Proceeds from the 5k will be shared with “I Am A Suicide Warrior” so they can post more signs around the county with their crisis hotline number.

Since last year, more than 150 people have come to run this morning.

“3 times more people than we had last year. Which is really impressive and I’m very impressed with the response from people who wanted to participate this year. I’m glad people came out to help,” Rahrig told us.

Prizes were awarded to the first three in the general classification and to the men/women in different age categories.
